City Districts

City districts are legal entities. The scope of their activities is regulated by the Statute of the City of Zagreb.

  • City districts are the upper level of local self-government in the City of Zagreb.
  • The bodies of the City Districts: councils and presidents.
  • Members of the councils are elected by the citizens of its territory on the basis of their general voting right of direct election by secret ballot.
  • Councils of the city districts consists 11 to 19 members (depending on the number of the citizens living in a district, and councils of the local committees have 7 members).
  • 17 city districts have been founded on the territory of the City of Zagreb.
